Video: The Strokes Play KROQ’s Weenie Roast — June 4, 2011

by Eric Van Dril · 106 comments

The Strokes only played for about 35-40 minutes at KROQ’s Weenie Roast Friday night. During that stretch, Julian repeatedly battled with his microphone and a lot of people had issues with the stream.

I was one of those people, so it’s a relief to have the following videos…

GameswithaJ is currently posting the videos on YouTube. I’ll post the rest of the set on the TheStrokesNews’ Facebook account, which you can access here.

Update: All the songs are up on the TSN Facebook page. Updated.

“Eh”, you’re not a mind reader. Jules is smiling more on this tour than any other. These songs are hard to play and hard to sing. There’s no such thing as phoning them in. In fact, they used to be much more aloof in concert; if anything, they’ve loosened up a bit and are interacting. Festival audiences are tough to win over, and they’re doing it at every stop. The guys are touring all over the world, rocking their asses off for people in the most efficient way they know how while making a living and maintaining their sanity. There’s plenty “musical” going on: vocals, instruments, songs…ya fuckin’ dummy.

@ Sarah, wow, l have actually done that twice already! I didn’t feel brave or anything, but l felt there was no other way l could go. Sure, l could have gone in a much safer direction, but l loved what l wanted to do and didn’t even think about retreating. 4 months later l got home crushed in every sense of the word. Physically, emotionally… I was facing another crossroad and l made the outrageous pick again, l went towards something new and today l’ve never been happier.

All l’m saying is that if you want something badly enough, you never see it as a choice. And secondly, it doesn’t always work out, sometimes it just knocks you out.

@Jamirquiche, they say that they’re stealing the show? Awesome! And everyone, please remember how Julian wrote that festival piece and said he likes it better when he actually has to win the crowd over!!
