I want to start this post by saying that I bought Albert’s EP and am seeing him play on Sunday.
I really like 4 of the 5 songs on the EP.
Unfortunately, this is not one of them. I’m just not crazy about this song at all! and I can’t figure out WHY he picked this song over Cooker Ship or even Rude Customer for the second video.

I think Cooker Ship is so awesome that I am literally shocked that I could love a song this much that is not by The Strokes or Julian. just being honest!
Something about the chorus and those guitars in that song….so good! 🙂

Is it possible there will be a third video? Does anyone know?

What am I missing? I’ve never heard this song. Didn’t know it was on AHJ, thought it was a 4-song EP. It’s not included in the Spotify version of the album. Don’t see it on itunes either.

@Automatic Stop
You got 5 tracks if you bought the EP thru Cult.

gordon wants to work with the strokes again:

i think it would be super interesting to see what his touch would bring to their newer sound.

Favorite album hands down

Thanks so much for posting that great RoF article! Such a great album.

My favorite part:

“The level of ability, tightness and power that they gained from that tour was unbelievably noticeable when they came back. They were not this fun, basement-y band anymore. They sounded more like Led Zeppelin than the Velvet Underground. It was so huge sounding. They still had the attitude and having fun, but they sounded like incredibly powerful and accomplished musicians.”

**Gordon’s quotes here make me think immediately of Reptilia. I was actually listening to it today and thought that it really IS a perfect song-

Each instrument is doing something extremely interesting, that guitar riff is so amazing and entrancing, the guitar solo is fast and fantastic and Julian’s vocals are mind-blowingly powerful and commanding.

Oh and the lyrics are like beautiful angry poetry-

*It sure as HELL makes me proud to be a loyal Strokes Fan!

I can finally say I have seen 2/5ths of The Strokes in concert. (3/6ths if you’re counting Ryan Gentles).
Albert Hammond Jr live in DC tonight. In-Fucking-Credible! Still really amped so I’m just gonna bullet the parts I can remember right now:
-Opening act was actually pretty cool.
-The red and black aesthetic to everything.
-Ryan helping set up their equipment
-“In Transit”
-2 new songs
-His band! So badass.
-Ending the show with a cover of The Misfits’ “Last Caress”

-My friend getting to shake Albert Hammond Jr’s hand
-Being so close to the stage

I’m seconding the above comment. IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE SHOW. If you guys have the chance to get tickets, DO IT. The set, the band, the effects, even the opener (who I was skeptical about but definitely impressed by in the end). Only downside was he didn’t have any encore songs prepared. ;D
And I got to meet him which…. hasn’t quite sunk in yet!
Also got lots of creepy stalker pics of Ryan…
ANYWAY. If he’s coming near you, it’s absolutely fucking worth it.

Yep – the show was awesome! Albert was having so much FUN. And he was so friendly and happy to meet with everybody after the show.

Of course my fave part was Cooker Ship- but In Transit was so great to hear – kinda emotional though.
The guitars/speakers seemed to have a slight distortion problem @ times during the night, but it was the first US show-I’m sure they’ll get that worked out asap.

Fun to see Ryan there – was kind of acting like a roadie- or maybe just there as a friend? but he was helping with the set up.

NightBox was the opening band and they were AMAZING. No lie – I LOVED THEM. They were intense!

And Skye is right – After his show was done- and the lights were coming on -Albert actually walked back onto the stage to speak to the still cheering crowd and apologized that they didn’t have “any more songs to play”. 🙂

Oh and btw- Maya found a new pic of Julian! 😀 It looks like a music store.

Just some trivia – teen breakfast show Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw (he who is pals with Care Delevingne, Harry Styles and Alexa Chung) and whose usual tracklist includes the likes of One Direction and Taylor Swift, has been guest editor of this months UK Elle magazine and lists New York City Cops as his all time 11th fave record to party to!

20 Anth November 4, 2013 at 5:43 pm

Just have to say, seeing Albert Hammond Jr preform “Cooker Ship” live was something else. He really went all out on that preformence, vocal wise. It was so cool.

Now it seems official that Julian is going to be. at Lollapalooza..

23 mateja November 4, 2013 at 6:41 pm

Actually, although the poster that is going around in the last hours seems to be legit there is nothing at web site yet, so we’ll have to wait one hour to confirm it, or not.

Albert’s EP is really really good. I’ve had it in constant rotation for a few weeks. It has some of the charm of Is This It with Albert’s own spin.
