The underlying, fixable issue with Julian Casablancas + The Voidz’ initial shows

1530372_820650107948457_1009759708_nThere have been a few common criticisms of Julian Casablancas + The Voidz’ initial shows. The two most prominent have been the quality of Julian’s voice — he sounded better at the two Lollapalooza shows, though — and the musicianship of the Voidz.

A pair of TheStrokesNews readers attended the band’s show in Argentina yesterday, and they criticized the set’s sound. It seems to be an issue that one doesn’t properly comprehend unless he or she sees The Voidz in person.

“It was LOUD,” Ubu wrote, about yesterday’s show. “The bass was disturbingly loud, I had to get away from the stage because I was starting to feel bad.”

Ubu added: “I was starting to feel sick and it was physically uncomfortable. I still watched the whole show but tried to get away from the speakers.”

The sound mixing needs to be fixed immediately. It’s something that has plagued nearly every show thus far, especially Fader Fort and the Lolla preshow in Chile.

Reader Mateja echoed Ubu about the sound issues yesterday.

“I’ve been in metal/punk/post-hardcore show several times, but yesterday I also felt terrible and had to step back a little,” Mateja wrote. “And I know he’s trying something new regarding to his live sound, but this is not an stylistic problem. The sound is merely bad, the mix is ridiculous. Julian nor any other artist in the world would aim to sound like that. Gus Oberg is there before the show checking everything (as he does with Albert and The Strokes), so I guess he’s the overall sound responsible.”
