For as much shit as I give , I’ve got to give it up to her. She arrived at tonight’s Devandra Bernhardt Banhart show insanely early, met Rodrigo of Fab Moretti’s Little Joy and asked him a very simple, yet important question.
That question: Is Little Joy currently working on their second record?
The answer, via Stephanie’s Twitter…
(Sidebar: Is that <3 symbol supposed to be a heart or a scrotum? I’m unclear.)
Splitting time between two bands doesn’t bother me because, as all three have said in interviews promoting their first record, Little Joy was never about making money or finding commercial success. It was about the experience of creating music together.
Off the bat, this announcement would seem to be horrible news for those thirsting for The Strokes IV. Little Joy is comprised of Rodrigo, Fab and Binki Shapiro. Fab and Binki are dating and this, out of everything, should be the thing that scares the shit out of you regarding Little Joy II and how it relates to Strokes IV.
Now, I obviously don’t know the details like Stephanie. She talked to Rodrigo and I just spent my day watching golf, doing interviews and constructing the smoothest and most interesting golf story you’ll ever read (link tomorrow). But the following question is what I keep coming back to when I think about Little Joy II:
Would Fab rather spend time with his girlfriend in a positive environment where there is little pressure to create commercially successful music or The Strokes (which doesn’t include his girlfriend, but does involve boatloads of pressure and five strong-headed individuals with unique tastes that have evolved into different directions since 2003)?
If I presented you with that question, which option would you choose?
