Watch: The Strokes’ Unofficial Video For ‘Call Me Back’

by Eric Van Dril · 38 comments

The following video is an unofficial art piece created for “Call Me Back”, the seventh song on Angles. It was created by Albert Hammond Jr. and sent out via email as a thank you of sorts to all of those which preordered the Strokes’ new record.

Thanks to Will for the link.

The best of Albert Hammond Jr. has yet to be seen. I do feel like his soberness is helping him embrace not only The Strokes, but his artistic vision as a whole.

Cool video

This is absolutely genious. Who’s that girl, btw ?

3 Dan March 28, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Is it just me or does the song/Julian sound better in this video?

4 thomas March 28, 2011 at 5:31 pm

pretty tight….. the girl is smokin.

oh and Dan,
it’s just you buddy. He sounds the exact same, great

5 alx. March 28, 2011 at 5:34 pm

How exactly did Albert make this? lol

I’m lovin the Futura bold oblique with lots of interletter over yellow background for Angles-things.

6 Warhola March 28, 2011 at 6:20 pm

Wow, this video is so many times better than the one they made for UCoD.
Albert should direct all future Strokes videos.

Getting artistic there, Albert?

Seriously, though, this video is lovely. It develops the tone of the song really well.

I know that i’m a little late with the whole suggesting videos of the day thing, but these are pretty cool ones…

the strokes commentary on the juicebox video

hosted by the strokes is funny

The girl is Camille Rowe.

I think it’s a great video. It fits the song perfectly.

10 Nick March 28, 2011 at 8:49 pm

this is about the nikolai and fab interview, does anyone have the alternate take of “last nite” nikolai is talking about in the interview?

11 Piss March 28, 2011 at 8:53 pm

i have always thought albert’s solo videos were really cool. no surprise he made something so beautiful

12 Gimli March 28, 2011 at 8:57 pm

there is an alternate version of last nite on the modern age ep if thats what hes talking about

13 wolfman March 28, 2011 at 9:46 pm

that was absolutely mesmerizing.
@nick i’ve always been wondering about that, i don’t think it ever leaked.

14 wolfman March 28, 2011 at 9:52 pm

come on, guys, we can’t let the strokes lose so pathetically to sum 51, even if the contest is retarded. VOTE!:

15 Kimdiy March 28, 2011 at 11:02 pm

i voted and did my part….how embarrassing would that be if sum 41 won over the strokes? i’m canadian, but even my patriotism cannot come b/w me and the strokes 🙂

16 Mike! March 29, 2011 at 12:49 am

Woah, just came across this by accident.

Its a lupe fiasco strokes mashup thingy. machu picchu with show goes on..

don’t know if i like it tho..

17 wolfman March 29, 2011 at 12:53 am

is this to be taken seriously?

18 Julian March 29, 2011 at 1:50 am

yes it is some serious shit

19 Julian March 29, 2011 at 1:54 am

there are 2 other takes of last nite on the “Lost Treasures” album. It’s not live that’s for sure and they sound pretty awesome even if a bit messy

20 Maria March 29, 2011 at 4:28 am

Woah thanks wolfman for the heads up. Yeah julian has done a track with digitalism. Clash music has a clear article on it. It’s going to be released june a 20th and he only contributed vocals. It said he did it by email. Cool!

21 AunomdelaFrance March 29, 2011 at 4:51 am

By email… So the 5 years break, it was because he forgot the password of his mailbox ? “The Strokes 2.0” is full of meaning now, it’s about their new way to work.

22 saywhat March 29, 2011 at 6:05 am

The NME report on it says that he did not contribute any vocals. Although most music magazines are complete garbage these days so who knows

23 Maria March 29, 2011 at 6:41 am

@saywhat i think you’re right because i just checked back to the clash article and they’ve taken out that sentence so maybe they had wrong information. Sorry. Should be interesting though. Apparently the track is called Forrest Gump!!

24 Maria March 29, 2011 at 6:44 am

The producer Jens Moelle implies that digitalism are maybe going in a different direction with their sound…

25 santi09 March 29, 2011 at 8:02 am

A delicious stroke’s cake! Who wants to taste it? Mouthwatering…. I would like to have one in my hands… so freaking awesome –

26 Pilar March 29, 2011 at 8:37 am

I love the video, but it doesn’t mix or add up with the song.

27 patrick March 29, 2011 at 8:54 am

too true..its a doodle, hardly a work of ‘genius’ as some would call it.

I love albert though

28 TS fan March 29, 2011 at 9:07 am

I agree with you and don’t want to watch again..

29 Cory March 29, 2011 at 9:37 am

Eric please make this video of the day. It’s my favorite strokes vid, and probably the most primitive on the web! Soma is awesome lol. It’s probably worthy of being video of the week!!

ps- you may want to consider making the vids “weekly” opposed to “daily”, because there is a finite amount, afterall.

“The duo worked with the Strokes frontman over email, eventually arriving at a song called “Forrest Gump.” While we were hoping it would be a new straight-legged dance move, Digitalism’s Jens Moelle tells the NME that it’s about “constantly keeping on moving otherwise you’ll be in some sort of psychic peril.” “

32 tito March 29, 2011 at 10:00 am

is there an alt take of a “Last Nite” video?

does anyone have a link?

honestly, i could have sworn i saw a different video the first time i saw them then the official one.

33 Molly St Clair March 29, 2011 at 12:40 pm

I watched this video the first time with no sound…pretty trippy! lol

I hope Julian keeps doing fun collaborations- I still have “Boombox” as my ringtone!

34 dave March 29, 2011 at 12:54 pm

anyone have a safe download link for the Lost Treasures? i’d never even heard of those before

35 Kimdiy March 29, 2011 at 1:09 pm

has anyone heard anything about the jimmy fallon show? besides julian’s tweet about rehearsing and hoping they play games, i haven’t heard anything else about it…

36 wolfman March 29, 2011 at 2:12 pm

@kimdiy my money’s on gratisfaction

37 jpgs March 30, 2011 at 12:02 am

@dave I downloaded it from here: The download link is right below the tracklisting. I think a lot of it is just a collection of early live versions but it sounds great!
