Watch: The Strokes play Governors Ball

by Eric Van Dril · 66 comments

The Strokes’ setlist at Governors Ball was almost the exact same as their Port Chester gig, only in a much bigger setting. It also, from reports, left fans near the front with bruises all over their bodies because the crowd was so rough. Here are some videos:

And I also came up with this, which I think it’s from two months ago, but it has some very interesting points about Julian Casablancas and the Voidz

I’m loving all these reviews, thanks @Mateja for sharing it . Ha the Spin review on The Strokes was like wow! wow! wow! I loved it. It seems like even after two latest maybe not so well accepted (or promoted) albums, The Strokes is the only band alive that still blows people’s minds like that after so many years. Hail our favorite five!

I was there and it was wild. We were in the front row at the barrier for JC+TV and really close/on the aisle for TS. I’m still kind of sore and definitely have bruises from the crowd but I don’t regret a single second, even the 7 brutal hours we stood there waiting on Saturday. It was amazing! We got to say hi to Sam on Friday too, I wasn’t expecting to see him walking around so that was cool. I thought both shows were great but I wish they’d been longer.

TS were late (no surprise) and there was this hilarious girl screaming at them I couldn’t stop laughing. Everyone starting singing ITI to get them out on stage and she yells “COME ON! I COULD SING THESE FUCKING SONGS MYSELF!” So if you’re on here and see this, I have to say you cracked us up during those 15 minutes! :) I like how fans were helping each other out too, especially since people were getting sick/being pulled out of the crowd left and right. Everyone there was really cool including the medics and security staff. I didn’t battle that crowd at the end, they pulled me out after NYCC and I was really thankful for that!

I normally hate Spin, but I liked this bit: “Blasted from the main-stage speakers, latter-day cuts like “One Way Trigger” and “Machu Piccu” felt very much akin to such well-worn standards as “Hard to Explain” and “Reptilia,” as if the second half of the Strokes’ career has been thought-out much more than anyone believed previously.”

I think future Strokes fans will have more positive opinions about Angles and, especially, Comedown Machine.

So did anyone get an audio recording of this fucking show?? If not, I just have to say that I’m very disappointed in today’s youth.

Damn, I wish there was a good quality vid of a Voidz concert for a sneaky preview of Tyranny… Still waiting for either TV or TS to get to this part of the world.
