Watch: Nikolai Fraiture plays alongside Mick Jagger, Arcade Fire on ‘Saturday Night Live’

by Eric Van Dril · 110 comments

With Fab and Albert (I believe) looking on, Nikolai played bass alongside Arcade Fire as the Montreal-based band backed up Mick Jagger on May 19’s Saturday Night Live. They performed “The Last Time.”

This was such a cool thing for me, as I love The Strokes and have grown into a massive Arcade Fire fan over the last year (I’m a hipster: Neon Bible is my favorite AF record).

What does everybody think?

Annie 1251-

You’re in America, right? Just a little tip: THIS new issue of the NME probably will NOT be available at Barnes and Noble on June 2nd. There’s usually a two to three week delay in foreign magazines being available in the US. You can still check and good luck but this issue probably won’t be for sale in the States for another two weeks.

I know they don’t publish everything from paper issue on their site, but maybe this one will…

Really?!! You mean we might finally have a chance at some info….and we STILL might have to wait weeks?!!

But – wait a minute – here’s a thought:
if the info is that Julian is going to start solo recording, or if it’s that the Strokes are really starting to move on V – won’t other news sources pick up on this? Not just NME?
Shouldn’t we start hearing news soon from other places, also?

Maybe. But, I remember that Julian in some interview from Phrazes era said that at that moment guys are making Angles at some studio in some secure location. I would say that, generaly speaking, until recording is not over, or nearly over, they like to keep it low key and very conspirate. So, if they are working on Stroke V, or Julian is working on his solo2, if it is not donne, they wolud not talk about it.

I’m going to have to disagree with you about Mick Jagger over Julian Casablancas as the best frontman.
Although I respect him and the Stones music and Mick is certainly a unique and charismatic entertainer, his somewhat spastic movements and chicken walks start to grate on me after a while.”

It’s a style he developed in the early 80s that I’ll admit became somewhat cartoonish as time and tours went by. Part of his genius is that it’s somewhat silly and he knows it. Aging rockers can’t take themselves seriously but he plays it just right. I would recommend that you watch his performances from the 60s and 70s. He was incredible. The complete body of work as a performer and songwriter just can’t be beat.

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web savvy so I’m not 100% sure. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kudos
