The whole time I was secretly hoping that all the sudden you’d hear drums, then it would pan over and you’d see Fab playing. Then you’d hear a couple guitars added in and it would zoom out to reveal Albert and Nick. Then Julian would come sing the last verse with him. We need a tour dammit!!!

Site many times a day and get exited from any news about them, but could you please tell me whats so special here? Sorry this is just not interesting and special, he didnt bring anything new to this great 60s beatles song. I dont get it.
@BrainDamage I like it specifically because he didn’t do anything “special,” unless you count the addition of the harmonica. Otherwise, he just stuck to the beautiful simplicity that makes the song so wonderful, and I like hearing it with his voice. Not everyone can cover The Beatles the way Stevie Wonder did with “We Can Work it Out.”
Yeah, it’s clear that he’s not trying to do anything special. Did you watch the video? He basically liked the song, covered it, and since we like the Strokes, we want to see him cover it. Booom!

When I write “in my life” on youtube i can hear thousands of covers like that, some are even good.
I just don’t get why would you get excited about that cover, other than the facet that he is from the strokes.

Fucking godawful. Just christ! Can’t play guitar, definitely can’t sing.
I liked it alright, but covering the Beatles? Not usually a good idea, especially a song like In My Life.
Like covering the Beatles is difficult? They’re not known to be a musically sophisticated band, so covering them isn’t like a huge feat or insult. Beatles were known for catchy, simplistic, consistent tunes. They’re no Pink Floyd or Zeppelin, so I don’t see what the big deal on covering them is. It sure as hell isn’t hard.
Beatles songs are a lot more complicated than those other bands. There’s a lot of complicated arrangements, complex chords, voice-leading, and layered accompaniment. They make new, interesting musical arrangements with catchy melodies. A lot like the Strokes.
It’s decent. Nothing special. Think it’s a bit stupid that people gets all hooked just because he’s from the strokes. I think he’s pretty decent as a musician. Also in the strokes. It’s only Julian who has the giant-talent. The others are cool and stuff, but since angles it’s all been about the individuals of the strokes and it’s just become clear that the others are a lot less talented than he is. They’re not charming as a band anymore.
@William, You’re right in that Julian is the best musician of the 5- no question. I’m excited for Strokes V but a little more excited for Julian’s next solo record.
@EPIC, You’re right that covering the Beatles isn’t technically difficult- as long as you can capture the simplicity that makes their work beautiful. I think Nikolai did a good job of that.
