Nick Valensi: ‘It seems as though The Strokes won’t do a lot of touring for this upcoming album’

Amanda de Cadenet did a Q&A with her husband, Nick Valensi, which was posted here today. It talks about his inspiration, how he chose his guitar and things of that nature.

Nick also says that The Strokes won’t tour very much for Comedown Machine.

Are you going to do any tours in Latin America? – Irina Tuma

I’m afraid not, my sweet petite. It seems as though The Strokes won’t do a lot of touring for this upcoming album. But don’t get your knickers in a twist — we’ll probably head on down there for the next album.

I was originally going to rant about this news, saying that The Strokes aren’t a real band if they don’t tour or whatever. I also debated saying that they should just break up and end this charade.

But after thinking about it for a few minutes, I wouldn’t be surprised if this decision was made because of their families. Having a young child, or children, requires two parents. So maybe that’s something three of the members understood and valued. Furthermore, there could also be somebody in one of the band member’s families with cancer or something of that nature. That would explain the media blackout, wouldn’t it?

My point is to not jump to any conclusions and go off the deep end with this news. Yes, it sucks. But I think there’s a valid reason behind it. The reason could very well be that they all hate each other and they did this just to fulfill the RCA contract, but I think it’s more complex than that.

What do you think?

@The Modern Age thanks. Next time I see Albert in the East Village (it happens maybe once a year to me, no joke) I plan on thanking him.

VS Double Trouble dual overdrive pedal is basically the Jekyll side (Overdrive part) times 2. Earlier era (is this it & room on fire) they dont require so much distortion in their sound so each guitar members only uses 1 VS Jekyll & Hyde 1st issue (it is sort of promotion version silver coloured J&H) until VS introduced full version of red J&H. Their sound is define even further with Hot Rod deville amp Overdrive part (the amp itself has an overdrive capability) cause i watched alot of their live performances in the earlier era, nick has always stomp on the amp pedal & mxr microamp when he is about to solo (to enhance his sound a level clearer than albert’s part)

In the FIOE era nick advanced with newer fresher sharper edgier sound when he started using VOX cooltron bulldog distortion (see here distortion) to emulate sound in juicebox solo. u can tell the differences obviously cause VS J&H hyde distortion part wont be able to emulate such sound. Albert also has been upgraded his pedals to 2 VS J&H since FIOE for some better boost. the rest of albert’s setup remains until now.

@themodernage Right before I bottomed out, when things were really bad, I was standing outside a bar, drunk as usual, and I didn’t want to be. Albert walked down the street carrying an umbrella and looking so happy. I knew he was sober (this was the beginning of 2011), and he looked so fucking happy it killed me. That’s when I started to think about treatment.

@Mike P, Yeah you have to tell him that!

Seems like they really aren’t putting any effort into advertising. A fan just randomly found the video.

Is nobody else fixated on the “next album” that was said?! A NEXT ALBUM. THIS ISNT THE END.

I think part of the reason that The Strokes won’t tour much is to protect Jules’ voice. I noticed that after a while of touring for Angles his voice started to deteriorate. Also, I’m not so sure Jules can sing the songs on Comedown Machine live

@Savannah I am fixated on that line too! It gave me hope.

Also, I wish they don’t forget South East Asia when they tour for their NEXT ALBUM.

A band that hates each other and wants to fulfill a contract would not come back THIS STRONG.
This album is amazing.
