The Strokes are returning to Later… With Jools Holland, scheduled to play the premier European music television program on May 17 at 22:00 on BBC2.

The Strokes will finally play at TV show in the UK, but the rest of the lineup on Jools is quite sub-par. They will share the stage with Staff Benda Bilili, The Burns Unite, King Creosote, Emma Pollock and Seasick Steve.

The last time The Strokes played Jools they played Heart in a Cage, Last Nite and YOLO. They’re of high quality and you can find all three on the TSN Facebook page.

The Strokes will also play Le Grand Journal at Cannes on May 20. The videos will be posted online here.

So there you go. What do you think The Strokes will play on both shows? Will they finally break out Machu Picchu?

As for Machu Piccu, and Metabolism as well, they haven’t performed them live because they haven’t figured out the setup yet. Both songs have unusual parts/melodies that are important to each song, with the guitar sounds – esp. in the beginning – of Machu Piccu and the synths of Metabolism. Take them out, the songs sound empty, though, they DID roll the dice by playing “Moonlight” live, and in my opinion, that song should also have synths when played live. I think what it comes down to is if The Strokes feel comfortable/the need to have a 6th person on-stage playing synths, guitar or whatever, instead of just playing to a backing track of some sorts in which I don’t doubt they have done already. Jules may also have to do double duty and play guitar or synths while singing.

For example: I think “Games” live, needs a 2nd guitar, specifically, to double the feedback or lightly play the chords during the verses, double the chords the synths are playing during the chorus and bridges before the verses, and for the 2nd half of the song during the breakdown before Jules comes with “I’m OK, I’m Alright…..”, a 2nd guitar should play chords while Nick’s guitar and Albert’s synths are playing the lead melody.

Sorry for the French, but it’s for the good cause: help a fan to meet the Strokes.

@Sarah I’m going to answer in English not to annoy non-French people =P.
Ok thanks much it’s very useful ! I’ll try to go to the exit after their performance or I’ll try to meet them on the croisette before 5pm if they hang out there (think I’ll be standing in the crowd, but I hope I’ll see them well not just on the big screens). Anywayyyy, thanks again !

AnhHoang, the best chance you will have to meet them is after the show, so be patient,( on the left of the stage). And do not forget to come back to tell us how it went, have a great show :-)

@Sarah Just to be sure, when you say “left” it’s the left from the audience’s point of view huh ? And if I get a seat, when they do rehearsals can we stay on our steats (I find it weird)? Or maybe bands do rehearsals before people get their seats.
Yep I’ll tell you guys everything and hopefully I’ll post pictures ;)

Yes, left it from the audience point of view (behind the scene there is the sea, so no way to come from there except by boat, if you remember older shows…) . For getting the seats they give you a ticket to come back later (or something like that if it did not changed) . So no for the rehersals you can not have seats, but watch from the croisette (that can be nice though, especially that there will be not much people at that time). But you can ask to someone on the staff at what time they rehears, to not wait all the afternoon.

@Sarah Just so you know today I saw singers leaving the stage by the right side =P haha

60 Sarah May 22, 2011 at 3:45 am

So, AnhHoang, did you get there? Was it great? Did you met them?

61 AnhHoang May 24, 2011 at 9:10 am

Hi Sarah ! Yep ! I was walking on the Croisette at 3pm when I heard them playing ! So we ran to le Grand Journal to see them rehearsing ! Julian was funny (in his usual awkward way). It was really nice, plus when I heard Fab on the drums doing Reptilia I was so excited ! There were a lot of people, we decided to stay there ’til the show started. Anyway, they sang 4 songs as you probably saw it, it was amazing to see them in front of me (btw I wasn’t on the set, it would have been bad cause some people on it couldn’t see a lot). And then we waited for them after the show. I met Albert, Nick & Fab !! They were rushed so we couldn’t really talk but we took pictures. But Julian damn Julian I didn’t see him ! Albert was really nice, he wrote “Happy Birthday” on my Angles sleeve cause today it’s my birthday haha. Ryan was also kind. I’m so happy of this day/evening !

AnhHoang,
I’m really happy for you, it’s great. Thank you for letting know how it went.
But what we REALLY want to know, is did they leave on the right or left of the stage? (I’m just kidding ;-) ).
Et Joyeux Anniversaire.
