As The Strokes’ European festival dates have been rolled out, France has seemingly been ignored.
Until now.
The Strokes will reportedly attend, and though I don’t speak a word of French I’d assume they’re going to play at least one gig, at Cannes Film Festival. Cannes runs from May 11-22 and is one of the most highly-regarded film festivals in the world.

This smells like a Tommy Hilfiger birthday party situation to me where The Strokes were probably hired by a giant film company to play a private, invite-only party. For the sake of French Strokes fans, I hope that’s not the case, but I’d hope that everybody is realistic heading into this.
The Strokes will play Le Grand Journal, a television show which Julian played last year. Le Grand Journal relocates to Cannes during the festival, so The Strokes will probably play an outdoor concert at some point during the festival. This is so much better than playing a private party.

Le Grand journal is a very popular TV show in France and during the Cannes festival they have a set there were they interview actors and have the hottest band of the moment playing live!! this should be absolutely amazing!!!!

I’m French and I can tell you this means that the Strokes will be performing on the set of a very famous TV show in France : Le Grand Journal.
This show is relocated in Cannes every year during the festival, and they welcome all the stars
I know it’s old news, but I just found this and thought I’d share it anyway. It’s a great video of the Strokes at one of their comeback performances last year at RockNess in Scotland, the first one shows NYCC, The Modern Age and Reptilia and the second one shows Take It Or Leave It. One of the best nights of my life!

oh…it’s great, but It’s just 1 or 2 songs on TV (and a small interview), it’s not a show or a festival…
Yes it won’t be more than 2-3 songs, but it makes sense to assume they will probably play at least one proper show in France: they won’t cross the Atlantic – and incur all the expenses – only to play a TV show…

they should make a movie.
it means the strokes will be playing on Le Grand Journal, but I’d assume they would play a festival there since they will be there…Paris has Rock en Seine which LCD played last year so maybe they will do that?
Does anyone know if Strokes will be coming to Australia this year for their new album?
