It does look funky! Y’know what? It reminds of the Hard To Explain video. When there in that small mirror room. Really looking forward for this video!

I am very excited for this video too! Looks like there are lots of 80′s-esque colors and Julian (finally) ditched the black jeans! Haha!

Well, the one Julian sitting in the middle doesn’t seem to wear any shades. There’s two of them all obviously
theres another screenshot on the strokes.com that confirms julian has finnally changed out of his all black everything outfit. and he took off the shades.!!! atleastfor one day to film a video haha. But it looks like its going to be really cool. And actually nick and nikolai are wearing shades it looks like. better stack up to their impressive past videos for how long they were in post production after announcing it!

Just watched it. I liked it. They look like they’re having a good time. Three things though :
haha I’m used to him being zoned out.
1. This might just be me because I’m really sick right now and it’s messed up my sense of balance but I got really dizzy watching the video. it was worth it though.
2. 1:57 Nick expresses emotion
3. My fav part was when Julian jokingly pretends to strangle Fab. It was really funny and random.

although the video doesn’t really do anything to enhance the song, it’s just as catchy visually, and definitely one of my faves from them.
Im not a big fan of the video. first of alll, i thought that over the “break” the strokes became more equal in the band, but obviously we see here that julians front and center. all five of him are. and i do realize that this could be for other reasons, but i think that julian is kind of a little power seeking in the band. which is totally uinderstandable, being the head writer for them for years. but also, i think theyre kind of pushing the whole “were still friends!” thing. in none of their previous videos were they this close, should we say. and it seems to me that they just want the press to think theyre a band again and feel like they have to prove it in any opportunity. then again, they could just be friends. this is my really critical way of looking at things. in reality, they probably just showed up and did what the director said. and no more shades! hooray, though julians really packing on some weight. maybe the marriage 40 is finally settling. wow, thats so rude.
I know the strokes haven’t been known their videos, but up to now i would like to see something other than them performing in the background like in The End Has No End or Juicebox. Hell, even You Only Live Once was great because the tobacco tar that filled the room related to the song a lot.
Now the positive: trippy video and I thought the multiple person thing that they had from 11th dimension was being abused, and i liked it.
And WHERE the hell does julian thrift to buy his leather jackets haha? Each one is slightly cooler than the next!
I really wanted to like this video but its just lack luster. Lets hope Machu Picchu is the third single!!!!! Although I can see it being Gratisfaction or Life Is Simple. Peace

seriously, there are some people who are never satisfied no matter what the strokes do…picky picky.
the video was enjoyable, and of course you’re going to have to focus more on julian in a video such as this when the band’s playing their instruments and can’t move too much cuz of the dolly camera. i thought there was wayyy more personal interaction between julian and the rest of the guys then ever before in videos, imo…
overall i enjoyed it and it visually looks different from a lot of music vids so kudos and good job.

@Kimdiy – I’m not trying to cause any conflict here but why are you so aposed to someone having a differing opinion? I thought there was clearly extremely little thought put into the video and considering the production has been going on for about 2 weeks longer than it should have I really was wanting (and expecting) something great. I’m a huge Strokes fan but I’m not a Strokes fanboy – so Julian strangeling Fab or just leaning on Albert thus showing “band interaction” really doesn’t do it for me and isn’t going to make up for the poor quality of the video. Apologies if my thoughts offend you. Oh and it should be noted that I have NO problem with you loving the video and thinking it is amazing – thats great. I just don’t share your opinion. Peace

and i feel like julian is just poking fun the entire time anyway (and im at least glad he doesnt take it seriously because its stupid)
if this had some better colours and less diGitAL forestry it could look vintage sci fi cool like 1251. and the whole mirror-y thing could be very end has no end but…. ive accepted the fact that we’ll never get roman coppola strokes genius collaboration again. im at least happy this is a simple video unlike unnecessary narrative philosophical nonsense UCOD

@madeye — I really don’t like it. I think it’s kind of a stupid concept. I don’t want to over-analyze it, so that’s all I’ll say.
@yardley -True that it really didn’t seem like the guys were getting along all that well a few months ago, but a lot of time has passed since those interviews when the cd first came out, They’ve been jamming in the studio, touring and making videos with each other since then. I’m sure they’ve had some time to talk some things through. Not to say it’s all perfect now, but when people have known each other for as long as these guys have, it’s almost like a family. You’re going to argue, you can’t stand each other sometimes, you might even hold some resentment about some things, but at the end of the day, you’re still family.
Anyway, my thoughts on the video: I love videos where the primary focus is the band, so I am very happy with it.
My favorite part of the video: At the end, when Julian is hugging Nikolai. It reminded me of those pictures they took in that same exact pose years ago. I admit I was happy to see Julian interacting with Nikolai. I think out of all of those earlier interviews, the one part that bothered me the most was in the Q magazine article when Julian got mad at Nikolai for making him “look bad.” I felt bad for Nikolai because he’s usually very diplomatic and sweet and clearly the interviewer exaggerated his comments when he relayed them to Julian. So, it was nice to see some Jules/Niko love!
I don’t necessarily think that this video is bad. It’s simple and more light hearted. It should of just been Julian doing the double instead of everyone at once, then each person gets a close up double in solos. (to not confuse people and give them a visual break.)
I did really like how it went around in a circle and Julian would pop up with a random facial expression and then would walk with the camera. That was nice.
Not their best but not their worst. Wish the quality of the video would be less choppy, or maybe it’s just my computer.
Julian look like he could care less on what the others feelings and moods are and just did whatever, which is cool; just his normal awkward who gives a shit self. His band mates were brought to life when he messed around with them.
NOW NICK… he needs to get over “trying to be better than everyone else” attitude and just go with it. I think he is way too uptight about everything and has a grudge, maybe not as much as the media plays it up, but he still has one. This is a fun video (yes headache prone) but light and fun, Nick needs to be like that.
Still love them and the video isn’t that bad. It just could of used some toning down.
