I like the geometric theme they’re taking with the single art, and Taken For a Fool is one of the best songs on Angles and one of my favorite songs of theirs in general, so I am happy.
taken for a fool is my fav song on angles. Will there be a new Bside when the single is released? its time for them to release a bside or demo. think of all the FIOE bsides that came out the months following the album.
I guess this also means a taken for a fool video… they should make it like the reptilia vid because the song has so many layers.
Your so gullible but i don’t mind…
i really like the artwork they’ve used for angles….i hope there will be a video for this soon!! it will probably be very cool
i wouldve preferred life is simple in the moonlight to be the next single but okay, cant wait 4 the video
Great that they’re still releasing proper singles; not many bands are doing that these days. I hope there’s an unreleased b-side. It was kind of disappointing that the UCOD single didn’t have one.
Buenisimoooo
Good choice for the second single, though I thought that Life is Simple was going to be the second one and Taken for a Fool the third.
Great artwork, the same line of design with that of UCoD.
Fuckin prayin for an unreleased B-side and waiting for the video clip.
Very cool news thnxx
Nice! My favorite song as well.
somewhat bummed it isnt life is simple in the moonlight, but so excited that they are releasing singles!
Life is Simple in the Moonlight, while a standout on Angles, doesn’t really scream “single” to me. If they put out a third, I’d guess it will Gratisfaction. They’ve been playing that one at every show (I think).
machu picchu please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not every single has to be an upbeat song. And Taken for a fool and UCoD are veeery upbeat, it would be a nice balance.
I wouldn’t mind having Life is Simple or Machu Picchu as single. But I predict Life is Simple.
Personally, I’m wondering what the fuck happened to Radio Minor City Madness or whatever. My memory is foggy from those previews but I recall that song being mentioned in the piece along with all the other songs off of Angles except Machu Picchu which makes me think think it was Machu Picchu’s working title, especially since it was described as something like “some subtle electronics, building to a wall of guitars” at least if I recall correctly.
^Oh yeah, Radio Minor Madness (as I remember it)! I had such hopes for that song. What happened. Ah well. Diggin’ the single artwork.
Taken For A Fool is actually my least favorite off of Angles. It’s still an amazing song, of course, but I think the others were better candidates. Oh well, I shouldn’t be complaining. Can’t wait for the (possible) video!
I am very excited. Please make a cool video
games would be a sensible 3rd choice, already recieveing radio play with it, and a reglar in the live set
to all the folks talking up Radio Minor Madness, i’m pretty sure they said that song turned into what we now know as Games. i definitely hope they release a non-album b-side tho.
hells yea. i think it’ll be a hit.
I agree with Ben. Life Is Simple is an amazing song but not a single.
can’t wait for the video!
Games is a reasonable guess for the third single. Its not a fan favorite (not for me anyway), but the band seems to like that one. I doubt Macchu Picchu will be a single, because they seem unable to pull it off live. Then again, I’ve been surprised before — I would never have guessed The End Has No End would be the final single off ROF.
Have they attempted Macchu Picchu live yet? It’s one of my favorites on Angles. I think it should be the other single but idk, I don’t care much about which songs are and aren’t singles, honestly.
I think Two Kinds of Happiness should have been the next single, but I like this one too. Also, Life is Simple is probably my favorite song on the whole record, but I don’t think it should ever be released as a single.I agree with Ben. It just doesn’t scream “single”.
@Mary Shea
They haven’t done Macchu Picchu live a single time, as far as I know. I don’t think they think they can replicate the weird vocal layering effect at the end without doing looping, and I don’t think they want to go down the looping route.
I actually thought that Radio Minor Madness became Taken for a Fool because Julian always sings live:
“Radiooo endingg” at the end of the song.
But if I recall right, Taken for a Fool was the first name of a song we had when they uploaded the first “Making of Angles”.
So I hope it didn’t cut the album and will be released as a B-side (doubt it tough)
yeah i hate to say it, but i think they’ll end up releasing another track off angles as the b-side for this single. if not that then probably a live recording of an angles song.
A Games demo with guitars instead of synths would be nice…
When do you think they will announce the b-side?
@alx.
good point, cuz julian said they originally recorded it with guitars and he didn’t like it. i would love to hear that.
I agree with Ben, Life is Simple doesn’t seem like a single. Taken for a Fool was my favorite song on Angles, this is a good choice, and I love the artwork. I’m definitely buying this one.
Hey speaking about Taken For A Fool, I played it on guitar!

Any feedback or comments ??? I would love to hear about it from Strokes fans. Thanks!
I think Radio Minor Madness became Games. My reasoning: The Strokes had a song way back called E Minor Madness (I believe you can find it on you tube) and the end of Games features the part that came from one of the early Strokes un-named songs, and I think I remember interviews saying that Games had part of an old song. Also, the description that Rolling Stone gave of Radio Minor Madness sounds like Games to me.
Also, about the B-Side, I think they’ll release an unused song from the Angles sessions. In the in-studio videos you can hear at least two songs that aren’t on angles. One shows Julian recording vocals, and the other sees Julian playing acoustic guitar while listening to the track. Recall the “psychedelic organ” comment.
@Lynn
Yeah, but remember album five is supposed to be using a lot of leftover material from Angles. They may not want to waste those tracks on a b-side at this point.
lisitm will without a doubt be the next single.
i think ‘gratisfaction’ is gonna be the third single. that just seems like a single.
if gratisfaction was going to be a single, they would have played it on one of the talk shows. lisitm was the second song they played on tv for christsake!
@Wolfman
They’ve always played non-singles on talk shows. Soma, Modern Age, Under Control, Take it or Leave It, just to name a few. Granted, they’ve never NOT played a single on talk shows, but the album’s only been out for a month and half.
Also, with the new “democratic” arrangement, they’re less likely to release a single that Julian wrote alone.
relax, wolfman. does it matter what they released as singles? I’m just stating what i think. ‘lisitm’ might be one of the better songs on the album, but alot of the better songs on previous albums were never released as singles. ‘NYCC’ for obvious reasons, ‘automatic stop’ and ‘whatever happened’ imo, and ‘razorblade’. so its not out of the ordinary for them to not released one of the better songs as singles.
i just think ‘gratisfaction’ was made for radio, and thus, a single.
I still go with Life is Simple in the Moonlight for the next single. If they don’t, I would choose Machu Picchu, but as they can’t play it live, it’s probably out. So my third choice would be Gratisfaction too, I think it would make a fine single.
I’m obssesing over the TFAF b-side.
why have they never released their cover of a salty salute???
lifes a gas/clampdown/mercy mercy me all got releases
@Lynn Re-reading some of the articles that came out before Angles I agree with you. Radio Minor Madness is definitely Games. Hope they release it with guitars instead of synth as a Bside.
