That’s a sick picture. Is there any way to find his playlist for this event? Also, I think the contrast between the Bing sign and the Apple computer is pretty funny.

nick is a douchebag

4 DinkinFlicka January 24, 2012 at 6:42 pm

@pbandj: Hahaha, I didn’t even notice that. Good eye.

I am really curious as to what a Nick Valensi playlist would be. What kind of event was this anyway?

nick actuallys IS a douchebag, you’d know if you read all the interviews and such since the realase of angles.

here he is again, showing off at “events” with is fucking primadonna rockstar attitude.

I bet he doesn’t know the first thing about DJing and just clicks play on a iTunes playlist… Hell I’m sure he doesn’t even know what Bing is.

@Kingsley You’re right, because judging someone you’ve never met based on what the media decides to put in their articles/interviews is completely fair and accurate

8 Kingsley January 25, 2012 at 2:57 pm

I read and watched tons of interviews and Im not te only one who thinks that, there were a LOT of comments about how Nick is a two faced prick on this site.

9 pbandj January 25, 2012 at 3:28 pm

@say whay Well said. Also: “judging someone you’ve never met based on what a bunch of people on a website say about about that same person, whom they also have never met.”

@Kingsley I have read the interviews ‘and such’ since the release of Angles. Also saw Nick play live since the release of Angles. He didn’t seem like such a douchebag rocking out while his kids danced and applauded him offstage, but hey, that was just him in real life. This photograph obviously speaks more about his character and intelligence than anything he’s ever said or done.

FUHHH. I’m sick of living an hour away from Sundance and NEVER GOING TO IT. Next year I’m going to camp out up there. I can’t believe I missed a Stroke. And Stan Lee, but that’s beside the point.

11 the modern age January 26, 2012 at 1:14 pm

I think Nick probably is a douchebag, but if I ever get to meet him maybe he’d prove me wrong. Everyone judges celebrities, so who cares what someone else thinks?

12 Kingsley January 26, 2012 at 1:33 pm

On the contrary Im sure that if met him I’d hate him. He has this hole attitude going on, like he’s constantly showing off and being à douchebag, kinda hard go explain…

Not to mention he wanted to steal strokes songs to make a solo record. I’m not making this up this was the subject of a big discussion in the comments on this site. Julian told all this in a interview.

In fact all the members are kind of douchebags. If you look closely: Nikolai always trying to be funny on twitter instead of answering interesting fan questions, Albert showing off his $2M kitchen on twitter, nick… Being him self, Julian taking not giving a shit about the band (where does he think all his money comes from? WE MADE THEM !)

13 the modern age January 26, 2012 at 2:02 pm

@Kingsley, hahaha! My husband would agree with you, and you’re probably right- but I still love them. Nick is probably my least favorite Stroke, but whatever.

14 two kinds of douchebags January 26, 2012 at 2:17 pm

Nick’s my second favourite douchebag 😉

15 pbandj January 26, 2012 at 8:13 pm

@Kingsley For the record, Nikolai has answered two of my questions on Twitter, and I felt they were interesting. But it would take too long to refute all of the assumptions you made about all of them. Just know that the world will be a better place if you stop judging people, even celebrities.

16 EPIC January 26, 2012 at 8:21 pm

That’s what makes Nick Valensi fucking awesome you amatuer. He epitomizes the Strokes style and not only that, his guitar skill is incredibly underrated when it comes to pace and melody. Not to mention, he also wrote Machu Picchu and Taken For A Fool. Two amazing songs off Angles. Let the dude be as long as it doesn’t fuck up the Strokes recording sessions.

17 the modern age January 27, 2012 at 7:33 am

@pbandj, That’s so cool he answered your questions! What did you ask him?

18 pbandj January 27, 2012 at 8:55 am

@the modern age Well, around PJ20 I asked him what Pearl Jam song he was most excited about hearing live and he said “PJ!!! Drop the Leash!” referring to their song “Leash” (unfortunately for him, they didn’t play it). And then more recently I asked him if he was a guitar player before he learned bass and he said, “Bass was my gateway instrument.” Then he posted a link for the guy he takes lessons from in New York. Ha ha…maybe this is info about Nikolai that most people on here already knew, but it was still pretty exciting getting retweets from him! 😀

19 the modern age January 27, 2012 at 1:08 pm

@pbandj, that IS exciting! I’m really jealous hahaha 🙂

20 ed January 30, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Wow, remember a time when bands actually wrote songs and practiced? Now all these fuckers want to do is “DJ” (i.e. press play on Itunes) and go “Hollywood”. What a pathetic bunch of fucking losers The Strokes have become. Julian’s eating everything in sight, gaining like 100 pounds, and can’t be bothered to write and/or practice. They’ve gone from the best band in the world to the ABSOLUTE worst band on the fucking planet. “Angles” was a fucking disgrace.

21 Lynn Wiberg January 30, 2012 at 9:27 pm

@ed I loved Angles, but to each his own. And obviously the Strokes aren’t doing anything right this moment, so what is wrong with Nick keeping busy? He’s got a family to feed and Microsoft has money. Makes sense to me. Also, how is Julian fat? I haven’t really noticed that.

22 kingsley January 31, 2012 at 12:08 pm

@ed +1000. !! They’re not a rock band anymore… not even a band. Just a bunch of dads jaming and taking pictures of themselves to put on twitter so that all the 12 year olds groupies can tell them they love them… it’s fucking disgusting

23 Lynn Wiberg January 31, 2012 at 9:25 pm

I like this place better when we’re all excited. The day Undercover of Darkness was first played was one of the best days of my life. Everyone was happy. And I think we all liked it.

You guys suck. Fucking criticizing these guys for doing pretty normal stuff. I’m sorry they aren’t spending every second of their free time making albums to please just you.

You’re not so fucking entitled.

24 Jessica January 31, 2012 at 9:43 pm

Based on what I’ve seen I don’t disagree with the fact that Nick is a douche. To be honest I’ve always thought he was. I’ve always thought they all were. Are they worse now? Sure, but that doesn’t really bother me. What bothers me is people saying things like “we made them” and they’re “the ABSOLUTE worst band on the fucking planet” that’s a bit of a stretch. I rarely comment here because it’s usually the same argument like Julian’s gained a 100 pounds he’s so lazy. Why are you so interested in how much Julian weighs? Or they’re a bunch of old dads jamming. So they aren’t supposed to grow up and move on with their lives for the sake of your happiness? You can tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about but I really don’t care.

25 pbandj January 31, 2012 at 11:19 pm

@Lynn Wiberg Thank you. I completely agree. It’s one thing to be critical, but I don’t understand why some “fans” come on here just to vent about how much they hate The Strokes.

Good music takes time. True artists write and create when they’re inspired to. That’s what makes for good music. You need only look at the Billboard Hot 100 to see what happens when artists pump out awful music just for money. Also, if Julian is fat, I love fatties apparently. Jesus God, the hyperbole of you people hating is just laughable. “The ABSOLUTE worst band on the fucking planet…” Really? I don’t even want to know what you consider the best.

26 kingsley February 1, 2012 at 1:39 am

@Jessica can you tell more about why you think Nick is a douchebag, aswell as the others ? Everyone love them for the same reason, but it’s interesting to see why people don’t like them (Im talking about their personality, not the music).

27 Billy February 3, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Haters gonna hate

imo Nick is cool dude i’ve met him and his wife and child a few times
around the silver lake area!
Very nice and chill guy very talkative and friendly actually.
His wife is sweet!
Idk why people are hating if they haven’t met them
kinda childish to me
Don’t be such a fool as to believe what the media feeds you.

@Lynn Wiberg
ahhhhh i live 45 minutes from Park City…and same thing. I never go and now i’ve missed a Stroke.
