I don’t put too much faith in what they say since their plans seem to change all the time, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the next record didn’t come out until mid-2013- but I hope I’m wrong! Maybe the longer they work on it the better it will be.

The Strokes is just one band that has a hired writer — JP Bowersock. Since he is acknowledged in their record sleeves, Bowersock is what the industry calls a professional songwriter. Still, other artists employ “ghostwriters” instead.

That is such bull fucking shit. It says All words and music by JC. He is credited as a guru because he taught nick, albert and julian playing the guitar. And he probably helped a bit with JC’s solos but saying that he is a writer because he gave some advises are fucking stupid. Can’t believe how unfair and ridiculous it is to try and take away julians honor. I really don’t hope this is getting big news cause it’s fucking sicking me

That’s true modern age. Im just not comfortable with the Strokes being included in articles about ghostwriters. It can be misconstrued by people. Being a guru, or as you say,collaborator, is one thing.Calling someone a hired writer is another and taking it a bit
too far.

@Tannk I stopped reading once I saw “Rihanna.” Any article that mentions both The Strokes and Rihanna in the same context should automatically be classified as bullshit. I did read the comments, however, and all but one were just people tearing apart the writer for being so wrong. Pretty funny!

@Mateja Thanks for the link! That’s the first video I’ve seen of “Ask Me Anything” where you can actually see Nick playing the keyboard. Jules’s voice sounds good, too, and I love his awkward rocking back and forth!

@Bernardo R., I never noticed the “Petergunn” and “Mandy” similarities- that’s so funny! I don’t know whether or not those two were intentional, but (and I know we all know this) Julian did admit to stealing “American Girl”. “Barely Legal” is The Velvet Underground’s “Waiting For My Man” and he’s admitted to stealing from The Cure as well. I think it’s hilarious that someone so talented “borrowed” material like that and got away with it.

Anyone try going on the official site lately? When I go on it says “new website coming soon” and lets you listen to Angles in its entirety. Not sure if it’s a bug from when they were working on the most recent shitty “new” website or if they’re actually redesigning it again.
