Interviews: The Strokes Interviewed At T-Mobile Party

by Eric Van Dril · 31 comments

Why did The Strokes decide to play a T-Mobile gig on Wednesday? This interview answers that questions.

Didn’t it seem like Julian wanted to say something? It’s like The Strokes have a ‘Julian can’t do interviews’ agreement.

To read more about the Strokes’ gig, check out the TSN Facebook group and scroll down to Nicole’s first-hand account.

correction:
Julian did answer questions during an interview at the event. In fact, he answered all the questions for the MTV representing people.

@thomass, do you know where we can find that interview?

Julian sing really really amazing live!! ;)

1. They were clearly not prepared for these types of questions on the red carpet
2. Love how Fab’s excited reaction to Albert’s save
3. Albert has now proven himself to be the best ‘bullshitter’ in the band
4. I love how Albert didn’t want to answer any more of her questions so he said “I’m sorry?!” .. “THE MUSIC!” *awkward laughter* :-)

All the more reasons why I love these guys so :)

Thanks Thomass, I see why they play last nite and reptilia in almost every gig and not something like Ize of the world or Life is Simple in theML (which I love).

And I loved Nick’s reaction to Albert saying “he likes the mobility the agility…”

Kind of annoying how the interviewer was relentlessly forcing the band to endorse the product. Great journalism! :/

It’s the shitty interviewers all over again… It feels like Is This It times, haha.

9 thomass April 22, 2011 at 2:28 pm

i’d have answered the same way. i.e. employing heavy use of sarcasm in my answers. It’s funny how no one wanted to answer her retarded questions and Albert had to step up last minute so it wasn’t so awkward.

Julian looks sober! wohoo! The slow mumbling is gone! He’s a normal guy again!!!

11 kate April 22, 2011 at 3:41 pm

It always bugs me when they have interviewers like these. And that sounds like an awesome performance.

12 C April 23, 2011 at 1:26 pm

…Um… is Albert holding a teacup?… *very confused*

13 Jessie April 23, 2011 at 2:32 pm

Julian is very smiley in this.

14 yo April 23, 2011 at 4:02 pm

18 Mykel April 24, 2011 at 10:32 am

@Bernardo R. Yeah and that shows how the strokes care about their fans which is rad.

19 L-G April 24, 2011 at 12:26 pm

Soooo…whatever happened to “You’re So Right” being released as a special Record Store Day single?

20 thomass April 24, 2011 at 8:14 pm

@L-G,
I dont know, however, at coachella Julian C. said something in the middle of singing taken for a fool about it being the next single.

21 annie April 25, 2011 at 4:14 am

@Emma how about the wiz kid offices?! I’m sure at least Ryan would be there. You could also check out Arlene’s Grocery or there’s that bar they used to always hang out at, I can’t remember the name but it was on Avenue A. And I think Julian’s supposed to live somewhere off Union Square…hmm lucky thing i live in a different continent!

This was probably one of my favourite interviews, just because it was so off the cuff. Albert came in with a big save there for Mr. Valensi. Cracks me up every time.

23 saywhat April 25, 2011 at 12:13 pm

They’re in the studio today

24 Ben April 25, 2011 at 1:37 pm

@annie The bar is 2A at Avenue A and Second Street. Also, the Mercury Lounge, and uhh… the Dwight School?

25 thomass April 25, 2011 at 2:14 pm

i’ll be heading to new york soon to visit soon as well…. those are good idea’s. I’m adding them to my itenirary

26 KEVIN April 25, 2011 at 6:57 pm

I’m KEVIN now cuz there’s another Kevin on here. Not that you care…Anyway, that interview is so awesome! It really seems like 5 buds hanging out and I love to see that. If this is the mindset going into working on album number 5, I could not be more excited!

27 KEVIN April 25, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Too bad though on that audio from the show. Wow, it sounds terrible. Not the performance, the sound.

28 Emma April 27, 2011 at 6:53 pm

Ahh thank you guys:)
