Also, if you haven’t heard, The Strokes will not announce any additional tours supporting Angles. They’re going to focus on making a new record, per the band’s newsletter.

I was hoping they would come to Australia soon 🙁

2 saloni tiwari September 21, 2011 at 5:55 am

i’d rather they work on music in the studio , 🙂 want another great set of songs !

I’m not much for Strokes/Julian covers and I do not like to sit and watch them (sorry Eric- I still appreciate your posts though). I know that’s so snobby of me because people are having fun and doing that they love. Being a musician myself, I understand that. I do love that TS influence others because that means people pay attention to their greatness, and if I played in a band I’d want to cover TS (how hypocritical of me) . I might enjoy hearing Strokes/Julian covers while hanging out in a bar but that’s about it. I hated the recent tribute album. However, the CMB remix is actually pretty cool and putting it to the video was great.

Off topic, but I just found this video, one of my (many many many many) favorites, via another site. Sorry, I got too excited about it because it’s just so good. I like the 2002 $2 Bill performance the best (also below in case anyone would like to see it again), but I love seeing them rock their classics later on in their career too.

@saloni tiwari, I agree 🙂 I wish they had done their own shows in the US this year but wasn’t expecting it after reading that they want to put out Strokes V soon. I’m kicking myself now for not going to the MSG show. What the fuck was I thinking.

really diggin´ Facu Cruz remix 😀

6 KEVIN SOUTH September 21, 2011 at 10:26 am

Damn, this means Angles will end my streak of seeing them on every tour. I saw them twice on the Is This It tour, twice on the ROF tour, and six times on the FIOE tour. I DID see them at Lollapalooza last year but that doesn’t really count because Angles wasn’t out yet. Damn.

7 mateja September 21, 2011 at 11:12 am

The first one is such a fantastic remix actually…

8 dom September 21, 2011 at 12:49 pm

I’m kinda diggin em both.
The Facu Cruz remix sounds like it could be on the “Drive” soundtrack…

9 Bobby September 21, 2011 at 5:14 pm

Great cover and remix. The guy in the 2nd video has a bunch of other covers, including Glass, which he says is his favorite song. The guy is pretty talented.

10 Mateja September 21, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Someone should sen the remix to Albert Hammond JR via TW… He uses to pay attention to these kind of stuff.

11 the modern age September 21, 2011 at 6:53 pm

@Mateja, Done, I would love for him to reply or RT. We’ll see I guess- they probably get 1,000 tweets/day. Thanks again for finding this guys!

12 stcrossable September 22, 2011 at 7:10 am

is there anyway to get a download link for this song and the glass cover?

13 Yuko September 22, 2011 at 9:46 am

I like them both! Actually, I sent the link to the Facu Cruz remix to Jules via tweet last weekend. Hope he had a chance to check it, too!

I think the acoustic cover of “LISITM” matches the mood of this song very well. I hope The Strokes play the acoustic set someday. This is one of my favorite tunes from Angles and I would love to hear their acoustic version.

14 Brianstoorm September 22, 2011 at 10:20 am

Did you see that? from Ryan :
“The boys are anxious to get back to writing/recording again, so it’s not looking likely that they’ll be adding more tour dates to the schedule at the present time. They know that they didn’t get to a LOT of places here in the states and abroad that they wanted to and that you guys were all asking us to, but after a 5 year break between this record and the last one, I think they’re excited to try and put out more music faster, first and foremost. then, hopefully we can get them to all those places they missed touring this time around. ”
Sorry if you did…

Facu Cruz remix, total dope. Best Strokes remix from Angles so far.
Is this one an official remix ? or a bootleg?

16 the modern age September 22, 2011 at 10:43 am

@Brianstoorm, that’s ok, thanks for posting- it’s a good topic and there hasn’t been a lot of discussion about it. What does everyone think about this? Would people rather have a new record or more tour dates in 2011?

17 mahhh September 22, 2011 at 11:40 am

I think the remix was a bummer because the best part of the song was left out, you know the ‘tell me don’t tell me the hard part is etc etc’! one could have made some really weird remix-shit out of that!

18 Julie September 22, 2011 at 12:16 pm

mahhh, I know what you mean. I like the remix but it is missing the most intriguing part of the song. Julian has been adding endings like that to a lot of songs within the last couple of years. I like it.

19 Daniel September 22, 2011 at 4:41 pm

That Call Me Back remix fucking sucked. Sorry to be a dick but all they did was cut out good parts and add that annoying beat.

20 Alex King September 22, 2011 at 5:43 pm

I posted a bigger version of I Like the Night on Youtube!

Check it out!

21 Julie September 22, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Thanks Alex!!! Where did you get that?

And when is this fucking song going to be released??????

22 Alex King September 22, 2011 at 6:56 pm

@ Julie

I edited it myself! I took some bits off of the I Like the Night (making of) video and just did some blending sounds for the editing to make it sound like it was one.

I’m anxious to hear the full song too man! 🙂

23 Alex King September 22, 2011 at 7:11 pm

High-quality version of I Like the Night EXTENDED version is now POSTED!

Better quality than the other one that I had

That’s funny, I especially like the fact that the Facu Cruz remix leaves out the b-section of the original song. From the very first couple of listens to “Call Me Back” all I could think was, “Man, this is pretty good. Well, that first b-section is OK… but why oh why oh why repeat it at the end and add some whine-y higher-pitched vocal line saying something about ’80s movies’? Why oh why oh why?”

That winedarksea cover of LISITM is incredible. I prefer their SNL performance of that song to the studio version (I love the way Julian messed up and had to ad-lib the lyrics in a spot or two, I found those much more meaningful), so I love that he took that performance as the model for this cover. I even really like how he “mis-heard” some of the lyrics at the end there. This cover really brings out the sadness of the song. And I dig it.

25 the modern age September 23, 2011 at 5:56 am

@Alex, Wow that’s impressive! I wish I knew how to do that. I’ll use that to get me by until Julian decides to release the rest of it….

@Julie, I know! I’m getting tired of waiting for this song!!

@C, You don’t like the ending to CMB? It’s definitely different. It reminds me a little of the way he ended 11th Dimension and Old Hollywood- now those are way different than the ending to CMB (especially Old Hollywood which is about an entire minute of random beauty), but it’s like he throws in something a little different to close it out. I think it’s cool.

I think that of all the ways someone could cover LISITM, solo acoustic guitar is the way to go. I could hear it on solo cello and love it just as much.

26 H September 23, 2011 at 8:10 am

Love them both, and thanks for featuring Julian’s acoustic radio session at the sidebar. At the end of the day, I still prefer Julian covering his own stuff.

27 KEVIN SOUTH September 23, 2011 at 9:14 am

My personal opinion: Call Me Back remix sux and the Life Is Simple acoustic version is beautiful.

28 Bolivar September 28, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Speaking about remixes, check this one out.
