Yeah, so Fab and Nick were in Mexico City last night. They were DJing an event for the new Blackberry 10, and even played “Tap Out” from the fantastic new Strokes record.
And when I write “played,” I mean they pushed a button and that four-minute orgasm of a song came out of the banquet hall’s sound system.
Alexa from TheStrokesFandom (on FB) was apparently there and recorded Fab and Nick standing behind a DJ booth while the song played. SEX!
This better not be the only time they play a song from the new record this year.

are there anymore aussies in the house??
Many people have interpreted my message as negative or dismissing the band and the album as a whole. I have not done so. I have only seen a few CRTICAL reviews about the album around here. Instead of saying OMG i love this Album, you suck for not liking it, why wont you have an open mind and read the posts and see why people are saying what they are saying instead of just dismissing the opinions of people here. I have never insulted anyone by saying fuck you, like people have done to me. If you take a look around posts and threads in this website, you will see that I post often here and that I dont attribute to hostility around here.
It is sad that people have taken my critical approach at understanding this album as negativity. What I have gotten in return is pretty much violence and insults. Yes, everyone is entitled to opinions. you can tell me to fuck off or whatever. I still like the Strokes, I dont see why people have said the otherwise and that anyone who calls this album not awesome is stupid or has been “spoon-fed by parents.” I defend the strokes in arguments but just because I wrote what I wrote does not mean I hate new sound of the strokes etc. I am just interpreting the situation right now with this album.
Lyrics (watered down, some songs are just not good in lyrics) maybe someone else is the band wrote them? and/or Julian just doesnt feel into the songs to write nice lyrics. Some lyrics are not storytelling anymore, is this a new approach? of course, does it show it works? not quite. (but then everyone has their opnions.) This could also be said in the vocals of the album. It takes a few more spins of the record to separate the lyrics from the music. The music is there but are the lyrics there? The lyrics are there but is the music there? Is Julian’s passion still there? yes but it fades in and out. And it take a couple other listens to focus just the vocals. Of course this isnt a cycle, one could come first before the other. It just depends what you are separating first in hearing. Does he like this new directions? does he like what he is singing? it seems he does and it parts he doesnt his vocals become lifeless, w/o passion. Only in different parts of course. not the whole album! I say this so people dont jump right away and say I think that the entire album sounds lifeless.
If you The Strokes read this site and saw everyone digs everything they put out, would this make Julian even more sad? happy?\. You see, it takes people with guts to point out what they dont like about things for the artist to better themselves and push harder to make better music (not saying that their album is bad of course) .Afterall it isn’t him calling all the shots now, just as he always wanted but he is also so meticulous on sound and some sounds and lyrics are far off to what he truly wanted. Think of angles here. some songs changed in form so much that he seemed indifferent about it but his behavior showed the otherwise. It takes guts to point out things in albums that it is evident that sounds have been forced so artists learn from their evolution in creating majestic albums
Instead of taking what I write as negativity, look at it as an effort to see whats happening, to understand this album both musically, lyrically, changes in passion, improvement on sound, degradation of sound and direction, etc.
Have I written a book? Perhaps. people critique me for doing so. But why are you so quick to dismiss people who write long posts for people to see different points of the story. I dont see mine as negative. Just a different approach at looking at this album with the hopes of the strokes continuing their legacy of great music.
@Jared
Take your time Jared. You don’t have to rush. You’re a saint…
@wtfwasthat: I agree with you.
+ Personally I don’t really care about The Strokes’ influences or whether they use synths or not, or Julian sings in falsetto or Is This It-ROF style. I don’t care who lives where, who knows what and whom, who did X that annoyed Y who said to Z that A should be more or less like the other thing which delayed something related to the recording sessions because of which X cancelled the whole thing and annoyed D who had a song that everybody hated so they made it sound more like The Strokes AND BLABLABLA, SO I don’t care about anything like that as long as the music moves and impresses me. I believe OWT, All the Time, Welcome to Japan and Partners in Crime have a great old-new Strokes sound balance, I love them, I liked them in the beginning and now I love them. The other songs just didn’t do it for me. We don’t necessarily have to pretend like the actual discussion revolves around The Strokes’ right to try new things(which they totally do have) or who wrote what and if they did it as a band. The actual discussion should be about what the album sounds like. Fullstop. And you may think it’s a great album, you may be impressed with it. But you may also not. While I agree that The Strokes have an amazing songwriting style that just grows on you, I can also name tracks from Angles and CD that yes, are more complex than the 2001-2006 albums, yes, have some incredibly catchy parts, but as a whole are dull and forgettable. Admitting it does not make anybody less of a Strokes fan, nor does it mean they deny the band’s right to experiment with new sounds.

@Jared, thanks for the post! I like it a lot. I was hoping for another brand new track but I shouldn’t complain since I love all 11 album songs. Man that chorus is catchy…
Fast Animals was neat. Thanks Jared. I thinkin’ it was one of the songs they were working on in the Making of Angles videos.

@brian and people who think it’s likely the strokes will break up: didn’t nick just say they’ll tour on their next album? they’re obviously planning on making another…
Looks like I rustled some jimmies. Sorry if you don’t like me calling you an ignorant idiot, but if you honestly believe that the band is close to breaking up after seeing how much the band actually wants to be a band, you’re pretty damn ignorant. It’s not being a fanboy. They aren’t touring because they don’t want to tour this album and they want to get back to recording as soon as possible. They’ve said it and implied it. And if you keep holding this “not going to tour” against them, my opinion of you stands. They never said they would or wouldn’t tour. It’s interesting how people continue to take anything that happens in the most negative way possible. Do I love The Strokes? Of course I fucking do. That doesn’t mean I’m blind. There was some tension in the band. Shit happens, but they seem to be recovering. They seem relatively excited for this album. And yeah, I’ll feed you that “they want to focus on music” stuff you hate hearing, but only because that’s just it. They really are trying to focus more on music. That’s what musicians do; focus on their god damned music. Sure, they should be doing a lot of touring but that’s just not what they want to do this time around. And you can’t just say “no TV appearances” and etc because it’s way too early to tell. They had a jumpstart with Angles, but that doesn’t mean they need to play All the Time two weeks before their fucking album is released. Pessimistic little shits who decide that the world of The Strokes is collapsing just because they’re not acting accordingly aren’t what anyone, fan or bandmember, desires. I think Albert put it best: “People like to talk.”
And like wolfman said, there are many hints and signs of them still getting prepared to go on. My opinion stands; if you honestly believe that The Strokes are going to break up in the near future, you are an ignorant idiot.
You are deluded, Matt. To try to reason with you is pointless. You only see what you want to see. You believe anything a member of The Strokes says like it’s gospel? That explains a lot.
Brian
“You only see what you want to see”
and vice versa
Tiger is right.
The only people who think The Strokes are going to break up are the ones who want them to break up.
And yeah, I’ll believe because they’re in the fucking band. Is that hard for you to comprehend? Unless you choose to go with NME and Pitchfork’s word over Nick’s word. I’m not sure if you knew this, but a band member is someone who plays a significant role in the band. And the band is the one that makes the music. If one member says they will be continuing, then there’s a large chance of them continuing. And here we have two members implying that they will be continuing, with one saying that they will. It’s not a hard concept to understand.
Of course, you’re right. No reason to argue with the unreasonable. Especially arrogant little fucks like you who think spouting off vague remarks will make them seem more intelligent and reasonable when, in actuality, there is nothing really being said that pertains to the main argument so there is no real power behind the remarks.
Matt (Just in case you didn’t see my username, and because I feel the need to type this in every single comment I create)
I love the bassline on the record, especially when it comes to chorus.
