Hells Yeah Hells Yeah!

My debut album came out today as well! Wanted to share with fellow Strokes fans on this site since I draw a ton of influence from this band. My song “Look In Your Eyes” in particular was influenced from JC’s solo stuff.

So awesome! Loved his Zane Lowe interview too! The Strokes are in the studio!

Just heard the album in spotify and really enjoyed, but my expectations were kinda broken by it. I’ts a really fun album, but it’s nothing incredibly awesome.
Nick himself said that it would be nothing too pretentious since it’s his first time as song writer, so it’s my bad to expect too much from it (Josh Homme is what got me hyped as hell about it anyway).
There are some great tracks in the album, but some of them are kinda “overly produced”, if you know what I mean. There are some pretty dull lyrics now and then too xP.

the video is pretty meh to say the least, not my cup of tea
excited to hear the record though

CRX is dope. Albert’s stuff is dope. The Voidz can lick my left nut.

7 Mike P in Bay Ridge October 29, 2016 at 6:22 am

I really like the record, but I think this is the weakest song on it! Definitely the most radio-friendly, though. I can see why he’d choose it as the lead single. I really like “Slow Down.”

Speaking of the Voidz, this interview with Julian and Warren Fu has a little more info on “Human Sadness” that I hadn’t heard before. (And I think it’s the first interview, however brief, I’ve seen with Julian in a long time. He gets distracted by the singing at the beginning — so Julian.)

No main topic for the CRX album release ?
Its really strange especially after lot of nick’s fans expressed their interest in seeing him put out a side projetc.

13 Oh Shit Bacon ! November 3, 2016 at 12:45 am

In one of the Reddit answers, to talk about Julian, Nick calls him”Casablancas”. Weird.
In another one he say “Julian”. Nothing important here of course^^.

Great questions and answers.

Pitchfork vid about ze strokes

15 LeavingIt November 3, 2016 at 9:57 pm

I like that Pitchfork video. But they’re still touting that rumor that they changed the album cover because it was too controversial. Most importantly, that’s not Julian’s story. But seriously, are we really supposed to believe that TS were concerned about their CD not being sold at Target?

I interviewed Nick Valensi for my college radio show! Dude is the nicest guy ever. The audio should be out soon. I interpreted him a lot cause we only had 10 minutes and I had so many questions, also it was over a phone call which makes the delay thing an issue. I wanted to ask him more questions but he would give super long answers which made it not easy.. Anyways I got really good answers from him and hopefully he doesn’t hate me…. it was my first interview what can I say.

20 Ted November 5, 2016 at 3:44 am

Cool ! Can you give us the link when it’s out ?
I listened to CrX album, nothing memorable, easy listening.

21 Sean November 9, 2016 at 10:19 am

Is anyone else finding themselves reflecting on Julian’s “tyranny esque” lyrics (phrazes, tyranny, and some of the songs on future present past) when considering Donald Trump winning the election? Out of Blue and drag queen in particular have been speaking to me the last 24odd hours. Regardless of whether you think his newer material is as good musically- I think it’s hard to deny that lyrically and thematically JC has proven to be a little ahead of his time.

22 Miguel November 9, 2016 at 11:21 am

@sean yeah totally true, there’s a verse from games that really speaks to me after this, the diamond cuts her eye/the crowd behind went wild/they weren’t all that proud but now they hear it loud

i’m not an american but somehow i think this line really represents the current american culture (and the world for that matter)

Been listening to Tyranny all day…that album was meant to be and ended up being way ahead of its time. And it’s also just incredible musically

25 Yung Zone November 10, 2016 at 9:11 am

Tyranny is back….

and im over here like WOW

26 Joseph A November 10, 2016 at 10:24 am

I’m interested in whether or not Julian listens to Frank Zappa. Zappa had commentary and great compositions early in the game.

27 Wes November 10, 2016 at 3:21 pm

He definitely doesn’t listen to Zappa but needs to.

For AHJ fans, not new, but this video followed after the one eyo put up — cool behind the scenes stuff. “Sometimes when you’re too comfortable, it can get a little cheezy.”

Lots of interviews with Nick coming out, most with nothing new to say. Here are a couple of the better ones:
recent, with KLOS: “You know you can’t swear on here right? This is live.” “Oh, thanks for the warning.” “Was you going to?” “I probably was, yeah.” (The end is reminiscent of the “Juicebox” video — how perfect.)

VERY recent and long, with Miles the DJ… gets personal and Nick’s really chatty:

In another not-very-interesting radio interview with Nick (thefivecount), he says they’re very early in the process for a new Strokes record. “VERY early.” We know what that means — it’ll be a year or two before we see it. Strokes time. Also in a not-very-interesting interview (The Scoop), Nick says they (TS) rarely write songs together as a band, like in a jam session, but when they do it’s really “magical”. Typically they write individually and then come together in a sort of “show and tell.”

Lastly this very recent Q&A with Nikolai. Very dry sense of humor.

29 LeavingIt November 13, 2016 at 10:20 am

Happy birthday to Nikolai.

30 Mikey B November 14, 2016 at 8:34 am

Hey guys so this is the interview I did with Nick Valensi. I am the guy who sounds like a nervous 12 year old meeting Justin Bieber. Regardless I’m still happy with the answers I was able to get out of him. My co-interviewer did most of the questioning since she is the main one who does these things for our radio station, but I snuck in here and there.

It was mostly focused on CRX but I also included questions on why they don’t play more Angles/Comedown Machine songs at concerts and also his opinions on Tyranny. Hope you enjoy!

31 Mikey B November 14, 2016 at 8:43 am

Also before anyone calls me out for interrupting him so much. Nick gives very long and detailed answers and we only had 15 minutes to talk, and I had so many questions to ask that I actually wasn’t even able to go through my list.

32 Annie 1251 November 14, 2016 at 7:34 pm

@Mikey B

You did a great job with the interview – I just listened to the whole thing.
He liked when you talked about them using a CRX lol!
I thought you asked some real good questions – I’m sure a lot of people will be glad you asked about CM & Angles being played at shows.

I gotta admit tho- I loved when he emphatically said how much he loved the Voidz Album. How proud he was of Julian. I’m still smiling. 🙂

Nick keeps talking about a real possibility of TS doing a tour. Wonder if it will happen?
Voidz II will be out first tho. I’m hoping January-
Perhaps you can also interview them!

33 Wes November 14, 2016 at 9:49 pm

I agree, that interview was great. Nick is chill af

34 El Pedro November 18, 2016 at 9:49 am

Good job @Mikey B, proud of ya kid

35 Mikey B November 18, 2016 at 11:41 am

Thanks @annie1251 @wes and @ElPedro

I tried my best. Hopefully I get more interviews!

36 WHATTHEFUCKWHASTHAT November 18, 2016 at 1:47 pm

@Mikey B

Awesome, good stuff!!

37 QBridges November 19, 2016 at 1:55 pm

best part of the nikolai interview:

Q: People’s biggest misconception about yourself
A: That I broke the zoom.

Thanks Annie! Very interesting to hear a rare glimpse into the strokes editing and writing process. Are there any more of those demos?

Watching the SoundBreaking series on PBS, all about the genesis of rock and roll and the recording industry. Great stuff.

Sound like anyone we know? 😀

Since I know all of you are melody junkies, check this out. Lmk what you think, when compared to strokes songs. Very strong vibe to it

Pogo – Bloom

45 wes November 25, 2016 at 1:14 am

Btw I think this song is brilliant!

46 Wes November 28, 2016 at 2:11 pm

If you like the Strokes VVVVVVV
Great melodic songs by Los Growlers(Not from their cult records release):

Great melodic songs by YTG in case ya’ll live under a rock:

47 Wes November 28, 2016 at 2:16 pm

I’m lovin the frieda kahlo getup in the Monotonia video by the growlers lmao

48 Joseph A November 28, 2016 at 7:36 pm

Why we don’t make a StrokesFest like DylanFest? People can form bands and play their favorite songs from Strokes and side projects.

49 joyce November 28, 2016 at 7:43 pm

hate doing this but only doing it because the last time i posted here we had good reception from some people. new ep released by our band – free download and full lyrics on the bandcamp –

50 MatthewB November 28, 2016 at 7:51 pm

I can vouch for Joyce, I remember a post for the same band. They’re good.
