Check Out This Awesome Swedish Strokes Cover Band

If The Strokes aren’t going to tour, these guys aren’t a bad alternative. What Ever Happened is my favorite cover. What’s yours?

They should get someone else to play Nick’s (?) parts, he has a pretty guitar though!

2 Dacka September 20, 2011 at 11:58 pm

I don’t like it, they just try to imitate the Strokes, they should make it differently.

3 Mykel September 21, 2011 at 3:43 am

I dont dig “cover bands” yeah the dude sounds like Jules, but he is no Jules. He should try to look like him either. I hate Doors cover bands the most cause the lead singer does everything like Morrison. The worst is clinging onto the mic for dear life. Jim didn’t mean to do that, he was just wasted and didnt want to fall on the ground…

4 whatever September 21, 2011 at 4:49 am

they are pretty good musicians, but their covers are not interesting because they do it exacly like the band, down the clothes. It’s ridiculous.

They should do it their own.

5 Micke_J September 21, 2011 at 5:32 am

Lighten up, its just a tribute band. Its not “artsy creative” music at all, perhaps this could mean that in a few years time when they find their own sound we’ll listen to their own original songs and like it because its so heaviliy influenced by TS?
:-)

6 Lani September 21, 2011 at 6:09 am

Wow he acts exactly like Jules

7 Alex September 21, 2011 at 6:32 am

I agree with Micke_J! They are just a bunch of guys having fun at a party playing the music that they love and that the crowd seems to enjoy. As you all can hear they play their instruments well, and probably play different music whenever they feel like it. My band played The Strokes covers all the time. Good times.

8 the modern age September 21, 2011 at 7:12 am

I’m not much for Strokes/Julian covers and I do not like to sit and watch them (sorry Eric- I still appreciate your posts though). I know that’s so snobby of me because people are having fun and doing that they love. Being a musician myself, I understand that. I do love that TS influence others because that means people pay attention to their greatness, and if I played in a band I’d want to cover TS (how hypocritical of me) . I might enjoy hearing Strokes/Julian covers while hanging out in a bar but that’s about it. I hated the recent tribute album. However, the CMB remix is actually pretty cool and putting it to the video was great.

9 lulu September 21, 2011 at 7:56 am

Eric, I love it. Really. These guys are about my age, getting it together. Maybe the older posters in here just seems them as copycats and NOTHING more. This is probably just phase one for this band and what better band to emulate than THE STROKES.

The Strokes emulated bands themselves, though there were obviously never a tribute band.

I would totally date any one of these guys, sort of like Glee.

Take it in that context. Musicians Rule! These guys will probably move on but for now, this is nothing but a great time and fun. WIsh I were there. I can see how the older posters here do NOT wish they were there and for them this would NOT be fun. For me, it is great.

Using my History of The Strokes for my college essay, too. Go Strokes, get me into a great college.

Only other thing I wish? They had a girl in the band and that girl was me.

10 the modern age September 21, 2011 at 8:44 am

@lulu, Let’s do it together- two girls in the band. You will love it, it will look great on your resume, and I’ll enjoy it because I’ll actually get to play vs. only listen :) Kidding, kidding. I still have my opinions (biased, I know- sorry) but I will say that you do make very good points on the subject.

11 KEVIN SOUTH September 21, 2011 at 10:03 am

I gotta admit, these guys are pretty good at it. Alone Together is right on (haven’t watched the others). I think it takes talented musicians to understand how these songs are put together. I’ve seen one other Strokes cover band in my life they didn’t have a clue. And who knows, these guys may have their own original band(s) and just do the Strokes thing on the side for kicks…

12 wilson September 21, 2011 at 11:44 am

i like the singer and the drummer but i feel like the guitarists suck . i could do a way better job (not trying to brag) i just didnt like there sound it wasnt good

13 April September 21, 2011 at 12:05 pm

as far as covers go, these are pretty good, they would be better if they added their own scandinavian touch though ;)

14 Ludwig September 21, 2011 at 12:15 pm

Thank you SO much for posting this Eric!

I’m the singer in the band and this was our second tribute gig. And like Kevin South said, most of us do have our own bands. This was something we just did for fun about a year ago at my “college” (where I met the other members) and decided to do it again this summer in my hometown. We all love The Strokes and I guess the whole idea was to imitate them simply because it’s fun and cause that’s kinda what you do playing a tribute gig and all.. Not everyday you get the chance to go Jules Mode on stage, right? ;) Anyways we had a really really good time and hope to play again soon!

Just uploaded NYCC if you guys wanna watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWxGeQeXz1s

And thanks for all the nice comments :D

15 Webs September 21, 2011 at 1:19 pm

i think this is awesome.

vocals are great!

music is great as well!

16 Stephanie September 21, 2011 at 1:28 pm

They’re really great!

17 Webs September 21, 2011 at 1:39 pm

NYCC is awesome!

Great Job Ludwig you got a great voice that sounds like Julian not exactly but very close. I would def love to see you guys as a cover band “someday..”

keep up the awesomeness!!!

18 yeah September 21, 2011 at 1:54 pm

actually these guys are far, far better musicians/players etcetera than the very limited band known as ‘the strokes’ are and will ever be. find out their names and check ‘em out individually.
the only reason if something doesn’t sound quite right here, is because these guys are trying to emulate on a lower lever of technique/musicianship. these things can be really hard to adapt to, you see. if toto, per se, would play ‘the misfits’ covers, the result would be inevitable crap. comprendes?

19 wilson September 21, 2011 at 2:27 pm

ok i take back what i said just listened to nycc and they did fucking great

20 the modern age September 21, 2011 at 2:45 pm

@yeah, you’re stirring trouble here! :)

21 Karl Fredrik September 21, 2011 at 2:46 pm

I if you compare these Swedish guys to Arctic Monkeys NYCC cover they are pretty much in an another league. Well done Ludwig!

22 Liv September 21, 2011 at 4:38 pm

Hey Ludwig, can you post a link to some of your other stuff? you do an awesome TS cover so I’m curious to see what else you guys have. :D

23 karinaa September 21, 2011 at 5:09 pm

overall, they actually come pretty close to sounding like The Strokes. but i tend to hear the tiniest little details and therefore i can tell its not them. but its still really good!! nice job:)

24 lulu September 21, 2011 at 5:16 pm

@modern age

I cannot sing but I can play the guitar. I mean it is obvious when you cannot sing. However, I would totally cut my hair like Julian’s and dress like him. He has some fabulous leather jackets. I would totally do that blue streak.

Maybe we could be the Girl Strokes. I play more like Albert than Nick, though. Obviously, not as good as Albert. I think I read somewhere only Albert get to shake and act orgasmic, otherwise it looks retarded. (Retarded, their word, not mine.)

IDK, it just seems like fun.

25 tom September 21, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Anyone know where to get a jacket like the singers?
They sound awesome btw.

26 Olivia September 21, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Guess who is the singer’s inspiration came from?!? haha well it is VERY true! That’s basically the SAME jacket which Julian was wearing when he was younger! I think in the modern age video!

They are good but need to put just a little twist on it. The singer sounds CREEPLY like Julian, which is good and bad because no one could be like Julian; he is sort of like a little mini-me type thing. But no one can pull of sunglasses inside except the real strokes members! :)

27 Olivia September 21, 2011 at 9:44 pm

Wait, the singer’s outfit is EXACTLY like the one Julian wore in The Modern Age music video!!! The yellowish plaid shirt, red tie, and JACKET?!?!?!? woah…

28 SharonGuitar500 September 22, 2011 at 6:18 am

They are actually pretty good, except for the guitarist who plays Nick’s parts. The intro of Heart in a Cage was awful. Except for the guitar’s tone, which he managed to recreate really well.

29 the modern age September 22, 2011 at 6:18 am

@Olivia, Yep.

@Tom, Go online and check out phixclothing – Men’s Black Military Red Piping Jacket with Gold Buttons.

@Lulu, That would be so much fun. I can sing (although not as well as Julian- I’m not even going to try). There’s no room for a violinist in TS but I can tranfer that to bass. Nikolai rocks but I don’t want a Niko jacket (sorry). I’ll wear a leather jacket, tight red pants (nothing wrong with a little PFTY fashion, right?), and streak my hair too. Maybe I’ll learn not to be so baised against Strokes cover bands…. :) Ludwig, you do have a fucking damn good voice. And obvious good taste, guys.

30 the modern age September 22, 2011 at 6:24 am

While I do LOVE the leather jackets, the “Let’s Dance” jacket from years ago will always be my favorite :) Who wears a jacket that says “Let’s Dance”? Only Julian.

31 lulu September 22, 2011 at 12:14 pm

Right! It’s a whole different brain set. Just the let’s have fun and do this brain set!

Ludwig and friends DID IT. And I think it is soooo unfair to criticize the guitarist in Ludwig’s band. Nick is a phenomenal guitarist. He has probably played that song, well who knows thousands of times. Of course, he is going to be better than a fun cover band doing a few gigs. Give the guy(s) a break.

@modern age Did you see the cover Eric put up of a violin concerto — and cannot find it, but found Jingle Punks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iCR1qiaxEE

We could all be Julian! That would be fun! Just have FUN with it.

In fact, maybe that’s what The Strokes forgot and are finding again. Maybe that’s what everyone is missing.

My college essay on The Strokes addresses Immanuel Kant’s Categorical Imperative as it pertains to The Strokes and the two Imperfect Duties:

The develop of one’s talents as an imperfect duty toward oneself with a byproduct of the contribution of the happiness for others which results in the second fundamental imperfect duty toward others. The resulting actions of song and entertainment ultimately express a considerations of duties as priority over all other interests.

This development of talent is ultimately reconciled with the legal limitations of drug use and the fundamental need to escape reality and transcend reality with their use which enhances not only the talent but the extraordinary circumstances The Strokes faced at an extremely young age.

The possession of an ability to make decisions right for oneself made on the basis a moral law and underlying need to move forward with the acclaimed and fundamental talent is applied to each Stroke.

Any, fundamentally, it is about FUN and talent and what you do when the talent is no longer FUN.

I think music and FUN go hand in hand and when you OR THE STROKES forget about the FUN of it all, the potential is there to become … well, like JON CARAMANICA of the New York Times who on so many occasions when covering The Strokes displays a vindictive, mean streak, almost like, whoa, it COULD HAVE BEEN ME, SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME. That guy, went out of his way to diss the Strokes when covering Nirvana in August. Yeah, I do mention him as a man who did not, based on Kant’s theory, develop his talent, ultimately conducting his life in a professionally dishonest (Kant application — immoral) way.

Oh, well. Sorry to run on.

The Strokes are FUN again, it seems since Bonnaroo.

Music is FUN.

Ludiwig’s Group is FUN.

And JON CARAMANICA has one of the most coveted positions in the world, from my perspective, and wastes it on petty vindictive jibes.

32 lulu September 22, 2011 at 12:38 pm

@yeah

Whats your email address:

JON CARAMANICA@NewYorkTimes.com

33 lulu September 22, 2011 at 12:49 pm

Oh, and one more thing @yeah

Let’s see you put up –

1. Your cover of The Strokes

2. Your cover of ANY BODY

3. Your own work!!!

Just link here … we will check back and be waiting!

For a long fucking time, I bet.

34 the modern age September 22, 2011 at 1:35 pm

Oh Lulu…. you have struck a chord with that video :) (no pun intended). I love this on strings. I have seen string quartets cover TS too and I totally appreciate it as something intentionally different (The Section Quartet covering Juicebox is fucking rad). This UCOD cover is just BEAUTIFUL.

I think it depends on whether the listener appreciates an exact replication OR an intentionally different arrangement. Nothing is wrong with either one (unless the arrangement totally sucks and ruins the song… such as most of the arrangements on an tribute album that was just released…. sorry! me being opinionated again!). A preference doesn’t actually even need to exist, but it inevitably will for different audiences.

HOWEVER, you’re right in that it is all about having fun, and I can certainly appreciate that. After all, it’s having fun with the BEST music ever created in the history of the world, which we can all agree on! I also see TS are having fun again. FINALLY!!!

Thank you for that video. I’m really excited about it. Alright, I’m going to go play UCOD on my violin now….

35 the modern age September 22, 2011 at 1:49 pm

PS: I hope everyone knows that when I mentioned the “tribute album that was just released” I was NOT talking about Ludwig’s band. Just want to make sure I was clear and am not offending anyone unintentionally (and sorry if any of you liked that album).

@Lulu, I know that album was still intended to be fun! Just not my favorite ;)

36 Norbert September 22, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Hey Guys.

My name is Norbert and i filmed this concert (an extremely awesome show, unfortunately my videos dont do these guys any justice.)
Anyway.. some of you asked for other bands that these guys play in.. well.. the guitarist to the right plays in a band called “Norbert med Vänner”.

You can listen on Spotify : http://open.spotify.com/album/6feTRamH5eM2W7Ik9XDbcV
A live-video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aPN_2bDPFE

And if you like it please let us know on our Facebook fanpage. Just search for “Norbert med Vänner”

Cheers!

37 the modern age September 23, 2011 at 6:07 am

@Norbert, This is really good :) Thanks for posting!

38 johanna September 23, 2011 at 9:45 am

whaaat how come I’m from Sweden and never heard of these guys before!!

39 Ludwig September 23, 2011 at 12:06 pm

@Liv and others..

Well, I played in an indie rock band a few years ago. But for now I’m just writing stuff on my own and trying to build myself a home studio.. but I got some good things going on though :)

So if you wanna hear my old band, check out: http://www.myspace.com/shillyshally (Much inspired by Arctic Monkeys, Hives and TS of course!)

@tom

I ordered the jacket (an original USMC Blues Jacket) from an US website. Wasn’t too expensive at all actually!

Here is a link: http://armysurplusnc.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=6

And thanks again for the comments guys!!

40 Petra September 24, 2011 at 1:25 pm

Holy shit! I can’t believe my eyes and ears!! Well they look a little bit different (you know what i mean) ..maybe except ‘Jules’ but when I closed my eyes and just listened to it I donť know if I would recognise that it was a cover and not real Strokes!! I mean I will still listen to the real band but I admire this guys, it must’ve been a lot of work to achieve this similarity.

41 wolfman September 24, 2011 at 1:33 pm

this wuld just make me want to see the real strokes 1000xs more.

42 Tobz October 1, 2011 at 2:34 am

makes me sick

43 a lot October 1, 2011 at 6:57 am

i Think it’s pathetic how he plays Julian. It’s ugly to watch. I hope he reads this because it’s terrible. Wannabe

44 Andrew L October 2, 2011 at 7:06 am

Meh, I’d see them, mainly because I’m starved to see the real Strokes. Saw em at the Sweetlife Festival or whatever earlier this year, but I’ve got to see them at a legit show.

Anyways, if anyone ever makes a Strokes cover band, they NEED to get this guy as their drummer, he does Ize perfectly, and I’m pretty sure he does Vision of Divison too. He does a ton of Strokes drum covers.

Check this out, he’s spot on with basically everything: http://youtu.be/cMWHjb_r7_k

45 D October 7, 2011 at 1:57 am

Wow, Ludwig you sound really good. Good stuff man. I loved that jacket since the modern age video. Awesome.
