Amanda De Cadenet mentions Nick Valensi on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ (I need some music news, please?)

by Eric Van Dril · 24 comments

Angles came out in the United States on March 22, 2011. One year later, this is just about the most newsworthy thing happening with The Strokes.

And here’s Nick on Amanda’s UStream feed from a few days ago…

Lastly, I just saw The Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys in concert three days ago. They’re supporting their new records by playing stadiums across the United States. That’s all I’ll say.

She is so cute. I love them together and I love those red boots!

In defense of the Arctic Monkeys, Suck It And See has been out for almost 10 months now and they are still touring like mad. This is their second tour through the states during the time the album has been out. (They toured the U.S just before it was released too.) And it’s not like all they do is play arena shows all the time anymore. (The greater portion of the time, yes.) In between their Coachella weekends, they’re playing at the Glass House in Pomona, an 800 capacity venue.

@EVD- What exactly did you mean with what you wrote on the last paragraph?

I saw them 3 days ago too! You and Hanan were both there? Wow.
I thought both bands played a great show. Though its quite sad to see the lacklustre reaction most ppl had for AM.

if that’s an insult to the Monkeys, you’re misguided sir…saw them this summer at the house of blues in chicago which was basically a small club and they were incredible….i think its time to admit that theyre on the rise while the strokes are and have been on the decline

@kingsley — I think that’s more the format than her.

@Gimli — That’s not an insult to either band. I’m not one of these people who criticize a band just because they get big. It was awesome to see them play a huge venue, and I was 15 feet away from Pat and 10 feet away from Nick at the United Center. It was essentially a club date for me. I saw Arcade Fire and The National at UIC Pavilion last Easter in what is now one of my 2 or 3 favorite shows ever. I’m not complaining about that.

What I meant is that it’s nice to see two bands who’ve tirelessly toured in order to (in TBK’s case, slowly) build their fan bases and not just release new music, play some festival dates and crawl back underground like The Strokes.

With that said, I don’t know what reason The Strokes have for not playing a proper tour in the US or UK. We know three members have small children, so trying to build a healthy home life and strengthen their relationships with their wives is probably a huge part of it. Another part could be to keep Albert on his path to sobriety — where throwing him into the fire of a long, laborious tour would be unhealthy for him and, in turn, the band.

The personal issues formed during the recording and touring of FIOE were probably another reason, as well.

I understand that there were likely reasons behind it, it’s just frustrating for me — somebody who lives in one of the three biggest cities in the United States — to only have the chance to see them live at the Pearl Jam Festival, where I had to stand more than 500 feet away because of PJ fans were awarded all the good seats.

I guess I’m like most people who comment on here in that I’m kind of angry about the touring of the last record, but I understand there were probably at least two really good reasons for it.

@Preetha — I wrote what I meant in a previous comment (the long one).

Where were you standing? Were you near the stage?

Eric- Check out Alabama Shakes if you haven’t already.

go to this link http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb/mb120124alabama_shakes then click on listen, and go to the 32 minute mark. The song is called ‘Always Alright’ and reminds me of early KOL, I think you would like it very much.

For people bashing Julian’s performances, Bob Dylan can’t sing anymore either, and neither of them were Andrea Bocelli to begin with.

@EVD-
Naw, I was way back at the seating area. I am so jealous of all the people on the GA floor. GA tickets were all sold out by the time I bought them( I took my time because I was going alone, and its only been my second time in Chicago, and I’ve never been to the United Center) . A part of me seriously contemplated jumping down and making a run for the floor, haha.
I agree with you.. I love The Strokes, and I know(hope) they have valid reasons for not touring more, but when I see TBK or AM and how hard they work and how good they consistently sound, it just makes me wonder at times how committed The Strokes are anymore. They were a band fans knew would work tirelessly at the studio or at rehearsals, but I don’t think they want to anymore. Maybe they just dont have the time, which I hope is the case
