UPDATE: Apparently they weren’t able to play it online. Those who heard the song say it was short and fantastic with Phrazes-esque lyrics.

There’s now some Twitter thing going on where a guy (paul@1019rxp.com) is supposed to send you an mp3 if you email him showing your support for The Strokes. But the catch is they only have the 7″ that’s coming out on Tuesday, so how the hell are they going to email you an mp3 file if they don’t have one? It doesn’t make sense and I’m pissed. UPDATED

So I woke up at 8 a.m. to listen to an hour of sub-par music waiting for The Strokes. You probably did the same.

Of course, 101.9 RXP didn’t play The Strokes’ “You’re So Right” on the web stream and now hundreds of Strokes fans are pissed off. So if you live on the East Coast and have a radio rip, I’d love to hear it and post it. You can either email me (thestrokesnews@gmail.com) or post the link in the comments and I’ll post it ASAP.

Brian is right, personnally I can wait, that’s not the problem. We won’t plan armed operation to have the song, and it’s just ridiculous to think it ( my pics was just a joke)

But, well, today, I have been taken for a fool ( special quote ^^) by this radio, and we don’t have reasons to forgive them…

I wonder if they even played it on their radio station. I’m starting to doubt it. We’ll hear it in a couple days, so no big deal other than the fact that these guys basically fed us a crap sandwich.

Perhaps I was bit harsh. I apologize.

Maybe the band and the radio station wanted to stream the song and the record company stepped in. I don’t know. If the radio station PROMISED that the song would be streamed and it wasn’t, then they were off-sides and I understand your anger. I wouldn’t put it past the radio station to do this to drum up “controversy” and sell more ads, get more e-mail addresses, etc. It’s sad to say, but with anything like this, you should probably be a lot more cynical. The bottom line, ratings, listeners, ad revenue, merch sales, download sales, ringtone sales are a lot more important given the two factors of a.) an awful world-wide economy and b.) an industry (music) that is irrevocably declining.

But I think we are seeing a calculated campaign to build anticipation for the songs, the record and with only a handful of dates being announced, the tour. Now, given we in live 2011 with Twitter/instant Gratisfaction, they have to know all this teasing and waiting can backfire and turn into resentment. What can you do?

This is just like the 30-second preview of “Under Cover of Darkness” on Amazon. Just a taste to build anticipation. Everyone wants to hear “You’re So Right” NOW more than they did this morning due to the fact that a few people have heard it but most who want to haven’t.
